Guwahati, Feb 17: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday introduced that former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah will formally join the Bharatiya Janata Celebration (BJP) on February 22.
Sarma made the announcement at a press convention held at Borah’s residence within the Ghoramara space of Guwahati following a closed-door assembly with him.
“His becoming a member of will strengthen the occasion, significantly as a result of he’s a grassroots chief. He’ll formally join the BJP within the presence of Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia,” Sarma mentioned.
The event comes only a day after Borah tendered his resignation from the Indian Nationwide Congress on February 16.
Earlier than his exit, Borah had categorically rejected the thought of associating with any weakened or compromised faction of the APCC, asserting that he would stay loyal solely to the unique Congress.
He had acknowledged that he would think about returning to the occasion if senior leaders — MP Pradyut Bordoloi and Chief of Opposition Debabrata Saikia — issued a united name reaffirming the occasion’s integrity.
Sarma’s go to to Borah’s residence drew consideration after Borah’s members of the family welcomed the chief minister with a standard ‘aarti’, a gesture extensively seen as politically symbolic.
Though the Congress excessive command didn’t instantly settle for Borah’s resignation and reportedly tried to persuade him to rethink, the most recent announcement alerts a decisive shift within the state’s political panorama.
