SHILLONG, FEB 23: Chief Minister Conrad Okay Sangma Monday emphasised public investment because the engine of development for Meghalaya, outlining plans to leverage central funding and increase connectivity in the state.
“Public investment will proceed to be the engine of development for Meghalaya,” Sangma stated, estimating a 67% improve in SASCI expenditure to ₹4,500 crore in 2026-27. Centrally Sponsored and Central Sector Schemes are anticipated to succeed in ₹6,833 crore.
The state targets ₹15,000 crore price new exterior aided initiatives (EAPs) in roads, energy, healthcare, city improvement, and human improvement for the subsequent Finance Fee interval.
“Strengthening air connectivity might be a recreation changer for Meghalaya,” Sangma stated, highlighting the upcoming enlargement of Umroi Airport’s runway to 2,400 meters.
Allocations embody ₹150 crore for Umroi Airport and ₹50 crore for Baljek Airport in Tura, handed over to Airport Authority of India for operationalization.
