The warship despatched a misery sign from the Indian Ocean, about 40 nautical miles off the southwest coast of the island
The Sri Lankan Navy has rescued 30 Iranians from the sinking IRIS Dena warship, International Minister Vijitha Herath stated on Wednesday.
The sinking vessel issued a misery sign on Wednesday morning from the Indian Ocean, about 40 nautical miles off town of Galle in southwestern Sri Lanka.
“We first obtained a misery name at round 5:08 AM,” Herath stated. “We instantly dispatched two navy ships to help the Iranian Navy Vessel. Thereafter, a joint operation was carried out by the navy and air power to rescue these in want of assist. Thirty individuals in want of pressing assist have been instantly rescued. They’ve been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.”
Some 180 folks have been believed to be on board the warship.
“We’re sure by the Worldwide Conference on Maritime Search and Rescue, 1979, to assist any ship in misery, no matter its nationality,” Herath added.
Sources near the rescue operation advised RT that the ship had probably been torpedoed.
IRIS Dena is a Moudge-class frigate of Iran’s Southern Fleet.
