Air India on January 29 introduced an order to buy 30 further Boeing plane, comprising 20 737-8 and 10 737-10 jets. These 30 single-aisle plane are along with the agency orders for 220 plane that Air India had positioned with Boeing in 2023, taking the whole variety of plane orders with Boeing to 250, the service stated in a press launch.
“Congratulations to @airindia and @Boeing_In on their announcement that Air India will add 30 extra @Boeing 737 MAX plane to its fleet. Day-after-day the Embassy works tirelessly to assist alternatives that profit each of our nations!” US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor wrote in a publish on X (formally twitter).
Thus far, the airline has acquired 52 plane from the unique 220 ordered in 2023, together with 51 737-8 jets presently in service with its subsidiary, Air India Specific, and one model-new 787-9, which is able to enter industrial service on the Mumbai-Frankfurt route from February 1, 2026, it stated.
With the newest order, Air India could have a complete of 198 new plane incoming from Boeing.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Govt Officer and Managing Director of Air India, stated the further order for 30 Boeing 737 plane is a part of the airline’s broader fleet technique to place itself as a world-class world service. “Constructing on our 2023 orders and subsequent additions, this order helps regular deliveries and fleet upgrades deliberate over the following few years,” he stated.
Paul Righi, Boeing Vice President of Business Gross sales and Advertising and marketing for Eurasia, India and South Asia, stated, “Air India’s order for extra 737 MAX jets underscores the sturdy efficiency of their present 737-8 fleet as they proceed to broaden connectivity throughout India and the South Asia area.”
“We worth Air India’s confidence within the 737-10 and 737-8 to offer the capability and flexibility they want as a cornerstone of their single-aisle development technique,” he added.
Powered by CFM LEAP-1B engines, the Boeing 737 provides distinctive gasoline effectivity, passenger consolation, and operational reliability for strong single-aisle operations.
Since its privatisation in January 2022, the Air India group has added practically 170 plane to its fleet by a mix of recent deliveries, strategic leases, the merger with erstwhile Vistara, and the reactivation of lengthy-grounded plane, marking important progress in capability expansion and fleet modernisation, the discharge added.
The announcement was made at Wings India 2026 within the presence of Civil Aviation Minister Okay Ram Mohan Naidu.
