New Delhi: IndiGo has shelled out ₹22.68 crore towards compensation and facilitation of passengers following huge flight disruptions in December final 12 months.
The civil aviation ministry on Monday shared information with the Rajya Sabha on the quantity spent by home scheduled airways towards compensation and facilitation of passengers in December and the overall quantity is little over ₹24 crore.
The quantity pertains to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights.
IndiGo shelled out ₹22.68 crore whereas Air India Group — Air India and Air India Categorical — paid ₹74.61 lakh. SpiceJet and Akasa Air spent ₹40.09 lakh and ₹21.06 lakh, respectively, as per the information shared by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in a written reply.
“IndiGo (until twenty eighth January, 2026), has made compensation of ₹22.68 crore. The method of compensation is underneath progress topic to obligatory affirmation from passengers and doc verification,” in keeping with the reply.
In early December, IndiGo confronted huge operational disruptions, and subsequently, the Directorate Basic of Civil Aviation (DGCA) curtailed the airline’s winter schedule by 10 per cent till February 10.
Between December 3 and 5, 2,507 flights have been cancelled, and 1,852 flights have been delayed, impacting over 3 lakh passengers at airports throughout the nation, the regulator stated in a press release on January 20.
