Niantic is laying off 68 employees shortly after selling its video game business to Saudi-owned cellular writer Scopely for $3.5 billion.
The corporate stated the deal would enable it to refocus on the geospatial AI business with the formation of a brand new firm known as Niantic Spatial Inc.
Niantic CEO John Hanke introduced an undisclosed variety of layoffs weeks later. He claimed the cuts would allow the corporate to turn into extra targeted by successfully working as a “startup group.”
“After lots of consideration, it grew to become clear that some roles wouldn’t be required given our new focus. This week, we’re sharing this information with the people whose roles are impacted,” stated Hanke in March.
