The Supreme Court on Friday pulled up the Assam authorities whereas listening to a case in opposition to a person accused of transporting beef and it “ought to have higher issues to do” than operating after such individuals.
A bench of Justices A S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan stayed the felony proceedings in opposition to the accused and posted the matter on April 16.
“State ought to have higher issues to do than operating after these folks,” the bench stated after the state knowledgeable concerning the meat pattern being despatched to a lab for testing.
The counsel stated after the transportation was intercepted, the driving force was unable to reply questions over the character of the particular product.
“The meat was then despatched to a forensic lab,” stated the counsel.
The court docket stated that an individual who didn’t have an skilled information could not differentiate between packaged uncooked packed of assorted animals by simply seeing it.

Referring to Part 8 of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, the court docket stated the supply might be invoked provided that there was information to the accused that the meat being bought was beef.
The state’s counsel argued that the accused was concerned in packaging and promoting the meat.
The bench stated the matter required a listening to and posted it in April.
