A lecture titled “Find out how to unfold Christianity in India” scheduled for March 14 at University of Madras has been cancelled following protest by the ABVP, Hindu organisations and outrage within the social media.
Flagging the problem, BJP state secretary S G Suryah condemned the college authorities for organising the occasion.
The formal announcement by the Division of Historical Historical past and Archaeology, University of Madras on holding the Sir S Subramania Ayyar Endowment Lecture 2024-2025 by Ok Siva Kumar, Chief Engineer, Hyderabad on the matters: “Find out how to unfold Christianity in India” and “Why want this margam” kicked up an argument.
The invite which went viral on the social media drew flak from a number of quarters. Prof S Elumalai, Registrar, in a communication to the Raj Bhavan dated March 7, knowledgeable that the Division of Historical Historical past and Archaeology had not obtained approval from the University of Madras to conduct the endowment lecture on the stated matters.

Earlier on that day, after he was reportedly questioned, J Soundararajan, Affiliate Professor and Head in-charge, chairperson of College of Historic Research, Division of Historical Historical past & Archaeology, University of Madras stated in a communication to the Registrar that the endowment lecture for the tutorial 12 months 2024-2025 has been cancelled “on account of administration causes.”
