Mangalore: 58 bird species documented during Campus Bird Count 2026 at Yenepoya university

The Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) performed the Campus Bird Count (CBC) 2026 from February 13 to 16 throughout its campuses in Mangaluru.

As many as 58 bird species have been documented during the four-day survey, reflecting the wealthy biodiversity current throughout the campus ecosystem.

The train comprised 4 structured subject visits, during which contributors noticed, recorded and photographed avian species. A complete of 107 college students and employees members took half within the initiative, contributing to systematic information assortment and documentation.

As a part of the programme, an orientation and lecture session launched contributors to the targets and methodology of the Campus Bird Count. Passionate bird watcher A. Gopalakrishna delivered a session on CBC 2026, outlining the framework of the Nice Yard Bird Count, identification of birding hotspots, preparation of checklists, and the usage of cellular purposes for bird identification and reporting.

Ok. Vineeth Kumar, zoologist and researcher, introduced a lecture titled ‘Feathered Jewels’, highlighting the ecological significance of birds, sharing insights into their distinctive options, and offering sensible steering on bird identification methods.

The programme was organised by the Centre for Environmental Research of Yenepoya university, and coordinated by Bhagya B. Sharma, Deputy Director of the centre.

The Campus Bird Count 2026 was a part of the university’s ongoing dedication to biodiversity consciousness, environmental stewardship and citizen science initiatives.
