
Imphal, April 4: In a big growth aimed toward addressing the continuing ethnic unrest in Manipur, representatives of the Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities are anticipated to carry their first tripartite assembly with the Ministry of House Affairs (MHA) in New Delhi on Saturday.
This would be the first formal assembly involving each communities and the Centre since ethnic violence erupted almost 23 months in the past, following the Meitei group’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) standing. The battle has since resulted in widespread displacement, casualties, whilst stress continues to shimmer between the communities throughout the state.
Whereas Manipur authorities officers have confirmed the assembly, they haven’t disclosed the agenda. The assembly is being coordinated by A.Ok. Mishra, Advisor to the MHA for Northeast Affairs, who had earlier held separate consultations with organisations representing each the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in Manipur.
In response to group leaders, Mishra formally invited representatives from each side to take part in the tripartite dialogue. An analogous try to carry such a gathering final 12 months failed after Kuki-Zo tribal organisations declined to satisfy Meitei leaders.
