‘Karnataka cited monetary constraints and conveyed reluctance to share prices’
Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has assured that he will work in the direction of reviving the shelved Mysuru-Kushalnagar railway line project.
Chatting with Star of Mysore yesterday, he mentioned that the project was scrapped following an evaluation by the Railway Division, which concluded that it was not possible attributable to low site visitors potential and poor monetary returns.
He mentioned that the Secretary to the Authorities, Division of Infrastructure Improvement, Ports and Inland Water Transport, had written a letter on Nov. 29, 2024, to the Chief Administrative Officer (Building), South Western Railway, stating that the Karnataka Authorities didn’t concur with the proposal to take up the Mysuru-Kushalnagar new railway line below a value-sharing mannequin.
The letter identified that the State Authorities was already spending Rs. 5,757.27 crore on the implementation of 9 railway tasks, of which Rs. 2,235.61 crore had been launched, whereas Rs. 3,521.66 crore was but to be launched.
It additionally famous that the State Authorities was bearing the complete value of land acquisition for seven tasks. Given this monetary burden, the letter acknowledged that precedence ought to be given to finishing the continued tasks and that the Mysuru-Kushalnagar railway proposal might subsequently be deferred.

The project had been sanctioned by the Ministry of Railways at an estimated value of Rs. 1,854.62 crore, with the Centre allocating Rs. 1,000 crore through the 2022-23 Finances.
The project would have commenced a lot earlier if the State Authorities had handed over the land to the Railways, because the Centre had already launched funds.
