
Guwahati, April 2: In a big step towards environmental conservation and ecological restoration, Oil India Restricted (OIL), in collaboration with the Digboi Forest Division, Assam Forest Division, inaugurated the Bambusetum and Dihing Patkai Eco Discovery Centre on Wednesday.
This initiative, a part of OIL’s flagship CSR venture “OIL Vasundhara”, comes with a complete funding of Rs 2.29 crore and goals to improve afforestation and biodiversity conservation in Assam.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, with the presence of Swapneel Paul, District Commissioner; Rupam Barua, Govt Director (F&A), OIL; T.C. Ranjith Ram, Divisional Forest Officer, Digboi Division, and senior officers from OIL and the Assam Forest Division.
As per the MoU signed on April 29, 2022, OIL undertook an formidable afforestation drive throughout 100 hectares of degraded forest land within the Bogapani Centre underneath Lakhipather Vary, Digboi. Beneath this venture, 2,50,000 saplings have been planted, specializing in the conservation of Hollong timber (Assam’s state tree) together with numerous indigenous species.
The Bambusetum unfold over 2 hectares, showcases 50 species of bamboo sourced from totally different areas of India with assist from the Rain Forest Analysis Institute (RFRI), Jorhat. This initiative is anticipated to protect indigenous bamboo species, promote analysis and training on bamboo’s ecological and financial significance and encourage sustainable use of bamboo for numerous industrial and environmental functions.
