Prime Minister Narendra Modi will minimize brief his Saudi Arabia journey and go away for India tonight, say authorities sources, after a terror assault in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam claimed 26 lives, which authorities say is the worst assault on civilians in years.
The killings come a day after PM Modi met with US Vice President JD Vance, who’s on a four-day tour of India along with his spouse Usha and youngsters.
Terrorists opened hearth at a famed meadow close to Kashmir’s Pahalgam city, dubbed “mini Switzerland” and about 90 km from key metropolis of Srinagar, and began firing at vacationers milling round eateries, taking pony rides or picnicking, officers and witnesses mentioned.
Earlier within the day, as information of the assault unfold, the Prime Minister dialled Dwelling Minister Amit Shah and requested him to go to the Union Territory.
Amit Shah landed in Srinagar somewhat after 9 pm and drove straight to the Raj Bhavan from the airport.
Director Basic of Jammu and Kashmir Police Nalin Prabhat briefed the house minister upon his arrival. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Dwelling Secretary Govind Mohan and Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka have been current on the time of the briefing.
Within the afternoon, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah mentioned that “the assault is far bigger than something we have seen directed at civilians in recent times”.
“This assault on our guests is an abomination,” he mentioned in a press release. “The perpetrators of this assault are animals, inhuman and worthy of contempt.”
