Stadium plan to be shelved if it disrupts silk manufacturing, assures Mysuru District Minister
Mysore/Mysuru: Silk saree manufacturing at the famed Mysore Silk weaving unit of Karnataka Silk Industries Company (KSIC) on Manandavadi Street resumed this morning after coming to a whole halt on Feb. 26, with protesting workers returning to work.
The employees had struck work opposing the proposed development of a stadium throughout the premises of the KSIC Filature Factory at T. Narasipur.
The Mysuru metropolis weaving unit employs over 775 employees, other than a couple of retired workers who proceed to help in manufacturing.

Minister’s assurance
The State Govt. has clarified that it has no plans to close down or repurpose the KSIC silk reeling unit at T. Narasipur. Preserving the unit and strengthening silk manufacturing stay prime priorities, based on District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa.
Responding to considerations over the proposed sports activities advanced throughout the KSIC premises, the Minister mentioned in Mysuru yesterday, that silk manufacturing wouldn’t be compromised. “How can we surrender silk manufacturing to create space for a stadium? If development is just not potential at this website, different places might be explored,” he mentioned.
He added that discussions have been held with the Silk Minister, KSIC officers and employees. A website inspection and assessment assembly led by the District Administration concluded that even minor disruptions to the unit or its workforce needs to be averted.
The Authorities has directed that the sports activities advanced proposal be dropped if it interferes with KSIC operations, he added.
