The Toronto Blue Jays chosen Southern Mississippi outfielder Jake Cook with the 81st overall decide in the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday.
The left-handed hitting outfielder was initially recruited as a two-way participant for the Golden Eagles. After initially specializing in pitching and reaching 96 m.p.h. together with his fastball, Cook ultimately transformed to centre area after struggling together with his command and throwing solely two innings in 2024.
The 22-year-old slashed .350/.436/.468 with three house runs and 32 RBIs over 60 video games this previous season.
In line with his MLB pipeline scouting report, Cook used “a disciplined strategy to persistently put the ball in play to all fields.”
