Johnson, who had two years left on his contract, was paid an annual wage of $1.95 million — making him the bottom paid head coach within the Large Ten this season. Thursday’s choice will price the college a $2.93 million buyout of his contract.
A graduate in 2005, Johnson returned to the college to function an assistant coach from 2013-18. He assumed the identical position at Xavier from 2018-21 earlier than returning to Minnesota.
