Kent, who turned 28 on Tuesday, made his main league debut final season and went 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA in 12 aid appearances with the Cleveland Guardians.
The Cardinals claimed Kent off waivers from the Guardians on Feb. 16 however designated him for task 5 days later to make room for infielder Ramon Urias.
To make room on the 40-man roster, Minnesota positioned right-hander Pablo Lopez on the 60-day injured listing. Lopez, 29, underwent Tommy John surgical procedure on Wednesday and is out for the season.
