MIAMI — The Pirates positioned second baseman Nick Gonzales on the 10-day injured record with a “non-displaced fracture of the left ankle,” Pittsburgh supervisor Derek Shelton stated Friday.
Gonzales was initially injured in spring coaching when he fouled a ball off his ankle.
He hit a two-run house run within the sixth inning of Thursday night time’s season-opening 5-4 loss to the Miami Marlins and hobbled across the bases. Gonzales was faraway from the sport shortly afterward.
The Pirates known as up utility participant Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the vacant roster spot.
Gonzales hit .270 with 49 RBIs in 94 video games final season.
