SHILLONG, MAY 31: The Jaintia Nationwide Council and the Jaiñtia College students Union on Saturday resolved to collectively pursue formal recognition of the Jaintia language underneath the Meghalaya State Language Act and push for official status for the A-B Jaintia phonetic alphabet, citing contradictory positions from state authorities on its progress.
The decision was adopted at a joint assembly of the JNC Central Government Committee and JSU held at Cafe Central, Jowai, on the “urgent topic of the preservation and official recognition of the Jaiñtia language and the A-B Jaiñtia Phonetic Alphabet.”
The assembly was attended by “senior residents, students, members of Jaiñtia literary our bodies, academics, writers, professors, and representatives of each organisations,” reflecting group concern over the problem.
Addressing the media, JNC Central Government Committee President Sambormi Lyngdoh known as the assembly fruitful and profitable, including that members “finally converged on one unified thought and backbone.”
