Bengaluru: The voting for 7 vacant Legislative Council seats from the Karnataka Meeting started on the Vidhana Soudha right here this morning.
Whereas the ruling Congress has fielded 5 candidates, the Opposition BJP has fielded 2 candidates and its coalition companion, the JD(S), in a single. The vacancies have been attributable to the retirement of 7 members whose tenure would finish on June 30.
The voting, which started at 9 am, will proceed until 4 pm, following which the counting of votes shall be taken up at 5 pm and the outcomes introduced later this night.
The Congress has fielded B.Okay. Hariprasad (KPCC President), Thippannappa Kamaknoor, P.V. Mohan, B.S. Shivanna (Malavalli Shivanna) and Vinay Karthik. Lingaraj Patil and Raghu R. Kautilya are the BJP candidates, whereas the JD(S) has fielded Govindaraju as its candidate.
The vacancies are because of the outgoing members Govindaraju, Naseer Ahmed, MTB Nagaraj, Pratap Simha Nayak, Thippannappa Kamaknoor, Sunil Vallyapure and B.Okay. Hariprasad.
