Chennai: Former WHO chief scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan, who heads MS Swaminathan Analysis Basis, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS).
The honour, among the many highest a scientist can obtain globally, makes Dr Soumya is the second Indian lady to be inducted into the society, after Dr Gagandeep Kang, was the primary to obtain the honour in 2019. Dr Soumya was director of the Nationwide Institute of Tuberculosis analysis in Chennai, and went on to be the director basic of ICMR and later chief scientist at WHO.
She formed scientific responses to HIV, TB, and the Covid-19 pandemic. incomes her a status as one of many world’s most consequential and trusted public well being scientists.
