Boko, June 4: In a significant crackdown on illegal fishing during the annual breeding season, the Assam Fishery Department on Thursday seized 105 fish traps and a number of other illegal nets from the Brahmaputra River in Kamrup district, officers stated.
The operation was carried out from Acholpara Zero Level below the Goroimari Improvement Block following complaints that fishermen had been persevering with to catch brood fish and juvenile fish regardless of a seasonal fishing ban.
The raid was carried out below the path of Kamrup District Fishery Improvement Officer Dr Sanjay Sharma, with help from Goroimari Police and fisheries personnel.
