5 new Judges have been on Monday (June 1, 2026) appointed to the Supreme Court, which can now have 37 judges, one wanting the upgraded sanctioned strength of 38.
In accordance to separate notifications issued by the division of justice within the Union legislation ministry on Monday morning, senior SC advocate Venkita Subramani Mohana, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of Bombay Excessive Court, Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana Excessive Court, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh Excessive Court, and Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Excessive Court have been elevated as high courtroom judges.

As soon as they take oath and assume cost, the Supreme Court will formally have 37 judges.
The Authorities final month promulgated an ordinance amending a legislation to enhance the sanctioned strength of the apex courtroom to 38 from 34, together with the Chief Justice of India.
Whereas there have been already two vacancies, after the sanctioned strength was elevated, altogether six posts turned vacant within the apex courtroom.
With 5 appointments on Monday (June 1, 2026), the Supreme Court has one emptiness.
